Miss You Like Crazy Earns P18 Million on first day.
How do I say this? I’ve warmed up to the “watery charms” of John Lloyd Cruz. I once used that offending phrase about him, but a girl can change her mind. As I sat watching Star Cinema’s post-Valentine offering Miss You Like Crazy, I was thankful that the movie is all about him. He plays Alan Alvarez, a regular guy with a good job, a pretty girlfriend, and an okay life. One day on the Pasig River Ferry, he meets the girl who will change his life forever. Bea Alonzo, that creamy-skinned leading lady du jour, plays Mia Samonte, a down-to-earth girl who falls for Alan’s nice guy game. Problem: he’s in a relationship with someone else. You can take it from there.
I don’t want to reveal too much about the plot of this “thought provoking romantic drama” (the words of Star Cinema not mine) because, er, there’s not much to reveal. Its pure formula but they do develop the characters nicely, giving them back story and complete arcs. Sadly, as much as John Lloyd and Bea are popular and profitable as a love team, they are unevenly matched in acting ability. Even if John Lloyd doesn’t have the kind of bone structure that the camera loves, there’s something about him that is subtly convincing that he’s real and vulnerable. Unfortunately, Bea Alonzo (who is undoubtedly pretty) isn’t as convincing. Perhaps she relies on her prettiness a little too much? Even when she’s acting “crazy” (like crying on public transportation and tossing peanuts into her mouth also on public transportation), she’s still just a pretty girl acting like a fool. (See the early work of Hilda Koronel if you want a beautiful girl with acting chops to match.)
I’m really not a huge fan of Star Cinema’s movie titles, which inevitably use a super sappy song title as the movie’s theme AND title. (It’s about record sales for them because didn’t Aiza Seguera and Erik Santos record the theme song and isn’t it released on Star Records?) However, I appreciate their practice of casting amazing actors in supporting roles. Bembol Roco as Mia’s invalid father will move you to tears by just lying there. The performances of Maricar Reyes, Jun Urbano, Noel Trinidad, and the Malaysian actor Gerald Hans Isaac are all assets for the movie. The third generation of the famous acting Mesa-Gil clan stand out, even in supporting roles the natural talent and good acting genes of cousins Ryan Eigenmann and Sid Lucero cannot be denied. My perpetual favorite Ketchup Eusebio also has a role as Mia’s gay friend, and he does it with sensitivity and depth as always.
But I think the real credit should go to Cathy Garcia-Molina, director of Miss You Like Crazy. She pulled off the complicated blocking of a meeting-in-traffic scene—which entailed a kalesa horse pissing in the middle of Chinatown—and a fairly tasteful love scene set against the staircase of an old house. And while the inherent cheesiness of Miss You Like Crazy cannot be avoided (much like John Lloyd’s Greenwich pizza) I must admit that in the end I was absorbed by this story about love and timing. Ever the optimist, I wanted the hero to end up with the girl. I mean, why not the happy ending? These days it is increasingly rare, almost mythical, but always possible in movies.

As everyone in Los Angeles anticipates Valentine’s Day, flower shop owner Reed (Ashton Kutcher) prepares for the busiest day of the year. But before he does that, he proposes marriage to live-in girlfriend Morley (Jessica Alba). While his best friend Julia (Jennifer Garner), is madly in-love with his doctor boyfriend (Patrick Dempsey) whose leaving for a scheduled surgery in another city. Julia does not suspect that his boyfriend might be hiding something from her. Her best friend Kara (Jessica Biel), meanwhile, insists that she attends her “I hate Valentine’s Day” party that same night. Theirs and other lives of various characters dealing with different issues of romance, falling in and out of love, break-up and making-up, intertwines further in one of the most celebrated and overrated, usually commercialized, occasions in the world.
Valentine’s Day treatment tends to be lighter as compared to other films of the same genre. The convoluted plots and subplots never really rise beyond expectations. The entire thread of the story just remained at a comfortable level without added depth and substance. Most scenes are nothing more than romantic clichés that the audience may have already seen in a movie or two. The material comes out as very limiting to the supposedly powerhouse cast. But then, Valentine’s Day still passes off as a date movie with some of its romantic twists and relatable subplots. The film also provides some good laughs and uplifting moments with its showcase of various kinds of love. The strength of the film really lies on its stellar casts whom audiences anticipate to see on the big screen only that their appearances seem to be very brief, leaving their fans wanting for more.
What really is the relevance of Valentine’s Day? This is one important question posed by the movie. Has this day really lost its relevance and is nothing more than a product of commercialism? Valentine’s Day has tried answering these questions by presenting various lives of people longing for love, looking for love and holding on to love. They all believe that love exists and it’s the only thing on the planet that keeps everyone sane. Some may have lost their faith in love but they eventually find it in the most unexpected moment. The really disturbing aspect of the movie however is the somewhat distorted concepts of love that appears to center on sex. Most characters in the story, most of the time, relate love with sex as if the two are interchangeable terms. The kid’s concept of love remains to be the purest along with that of the mother’s love. Love between friends of the opposite sex seems to be impossible to remain platonic because it eventually leads to mutual attraction. But then, marrying one’s best friend is almost always a good idea for friendship is a good foundation of love. Communication, honesty, forgiveness, tolerance and acceptance are some of the virtues associated with love and is really shown effectively in the movie. The entire concept of the film however, with some adult themes, nudity and presentation of homosexual and extra-marital affairs, although made in context, make the movie appropriate for mature audience only.

BRIEF FILM SYNOPSIS
Walt Disney Animation Studios presents the musical THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, an animated comedy set in the great city of New Orleans. From the creators of “the Little Mermaid” and “Aladdin” comes a modern classic tale, featuring a beautiful girl named Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again, and a fateful kiss that leads them both on a hilarious adventure through the mystical bayous of Louisiana.
THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG marks the return to hand-drawn animation form the revered team of John Musker and Ron Clements, with music by Oscar-winning composer Randy Newman. (Walt Disney)
But make no mistake—hand-drawn does not mean musty and irrelevant, especially in this age when Disney’s A Christmas Carol features such elegant motion-capture technology, when Fantastic Mr. Fox has updated stop-motion animation with engrossing results, and the computer whiz kids at Pixar regularly hit it out of the park with likely Oscar nominee for best picture Up. Of course, The Princess and the Frog sits squarely inside the Disney formula: It features a headstrong heroine—a waitress named Tiana (Dreamgirls’ Anika Noni Rose) toiling in 1930s New Orleans, dreaming of opening her own restaurant. (And in the tradition of such indelible classics as Mermaid’s “Part of Your World” and the yearning lyrics of “I want much more than this provincial life” in Beauty’s “Belle”, Tiana has her own “I want” song, “Almost There.”) There are talking animals—a jazz-loving alligator named Louis (Michael-Leon Wooley) and a Cajun firefly named Ray (Jim Cummings). And last but not least, there is the adaptation of a classic fairy tale: A prince named Naveen (Nip/Tuck’s Bruno Campos) is laid low by Dr. Facilier (Keith David), a dark-hearted dabbler in the dark arts, who transforms him into a frog, needing the kiss of a princess to restore him.
But directors Ron Clements and John Musker (Aladdin) manage to pack a lot of invention inside the iron-clad Disney formula too. For one thing, they’ve introduced Disney’s first African-American heroine. For another, they’ve put a delicious twist on the fairy tale: When Tiana kisses Naveen, the amphibian prince stays the same…and the heroine is also transformed into a frog, mainly because she isn’t really a princess. The most hilarious inversion of all? Tiana only kisses froggy Naveen because he promises to help her open her restaurant if she does!

Miss you like crazyBea Alonzo denied that she felt left out by Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina and John Lloyd Cruz when they started shooting. “Nag-adjust, parang nanibago hindi left out, not at all,” she clarified. “Never naman nangyari ‘yon. Nanibago kasi nga parang bago ka ulit kasi marami na rin silang private jokes na hindi mo alam ‘yung ganun. But after a while, ‘yung nakukuha mo na rin ‘yung jokes nila [at] kasali ka na ulit. Ang sarap kasi nga hindi naman nila pinapa-feel sa ‘yo na, ‘Ay nawala ka for three years andami mo nang ‘di alam.’ They would share.” After the three of them did One More Chance in 2007, Direk Cathy and John Lloyd were able to do two more movies together, A Very Special Love and You Changed My Life.

Best friends were Mae (Kim Chiu) and Bogs (Gerald Anderson) but was Mae has a secret to looking Bogs. It's long kinimkim Mae while Bogs are touched that touched Anna (Melissa Ricks). As intimate, often helps more of Mae was Bogs in its suit gimmick Anna to be together forever the two. But one day was once separate'll Anna Bogs to others because it is expensive pala. It's extremely dadamdamin Bogs and give naman ni Mae todong his support until the inevitable by Mae vent to the Bogs pinakatatago his feelings for it. This maghuhudyat end their friendship and start to become lovers. Well hopefully all of the sudden they both return to the life of Anna Bogs. Here begin to think of was Mae really loved that he's been covering Bogs or hole-only him.
After all is not much new in the story. Two best friends that magkaka-ibigan. Almost ill-performance of other stories to the usual show with the same theme. Latest that perhaps the nagsiganap warm, all compound the modern generation. Great na of their performance. More efficient the second man who adopted more particularly the weight and depth of flow of the story. Well na pagkakadirehe and the correct mixture of emotions in each scene. Yun nga lang, may the lines were old and worn to hear the other movies. The whole is being checked the old material. Not clear what the pleasant nature of the staff that they are to love or love. It will bring much confusion to the true meaning of love.
Rotate the full story on the theme of love and many types that in the end were magkaka-Post and magkakarugtong. Say the movie at home first learned to love. If its poor homes is to seek out and learn and security magagampanan it well despite its lack of family. This is shown to relations Mae and Bogs. They both seek to love their families. The Mae, his father, while Bogs, his mother. They made fill the gap in depth of their friendship until they finally become lovers, but were still not been enough each other to fill any shortfall. Good message to their families to strengthen love within the home because it will be the firm foundation of any magmamahal. How much and any less will be prejudicial to love. Mae's father was keen desire to improve child in the end much resentment only Implanted in its heart. Was also keen to shed the love of his Mae friend Bogs almost forget that his own expense. Good foundation but also love the friendship, though difficult to sustain. Come later still governed pure love and not to improving the understanding paiiralin and forgiveness.
